Google Assistant was first launched exclusively for the Google’s Pixel devices however it soon got a lot of attention and it could not stay exclusive to Pixel devices only. We can see lots of artificial intelligence based assistant nowadays like Siri, Alexa, and Cortana. And Google had to do something to push its Assistant to as many devices as possible.
First, many developers got a way to get Google Assitant on any Android phone running a custom ROM, sooner Google decided to make Google Assistant available for other Android devices too. Now, the Google Assistant has already replaced Google Now on most of the Android devices.
Google did not stop here, recently they also made their Assitant available for Apple’s iPhone. People are loving it and personally, even I prefer Google Assistant over Siri in most cases (but GA can’t pronounce my name right). GA is now running on more than 100 million devices and that number would get higher if we port it to other devices as well, thanks to Google Assistant SDK.
With the open source project MacAssitant now it’s possible for Mac users to enjoy Google Assitant on their macOS. However, keep in mind that this app is still in its early build stage and there are lots of features yet to be implemented. Otherwise, it’s stable and works fine except for a few quirks which I will list below.
